Ingredients

For 4 servings

  • 300 g ziti pasta
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 onion
  • 800 g canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • salt — to taste
  • black pepper — to taste
  • 250 g ricotta cheese
  • 200 g mozzarella cheese
  • 50 g parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 2

Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.

  3. 3

While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Mince the garlic and chop the onion, then sauté until the onion is translucent.

  4. 4

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the pan. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. 5

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, tomato sauce, and ricotta cheese. Mix well.

  6. 6

Transfer half of the pasta mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella and parmesan cheeses over the pasta.

  7. 7

Layer the remaining pasta mixture over the cheese, then top with the remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheeses.

  8. 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown on top.

  9. 9

Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
