Ingredients

For 4 servings

  • 400 grams pasta
  • 400 grams canned lentils
  • 400 grams canned tomatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • salt — to taste
  • black pepper — to taste

Instructions

  1. 1

Cook pasta according to package instructions in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

While pasta is cooking, finely chop the onion and garlic.

  3. 3

In a pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, sauté until soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.

  4. 4

Add canned tomatoes and their juice to the pan, breaking them up with a spoon. Stir in oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.

  5. 5

Rinse and drain canned lentils, then add them to the sauce. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until heated through.

  6. 6

Combine the cooked pasta with the lentil tomato sauce. Mix well to coat the pasta evenly.

  7. 7

Serve hot, adjusting seasoning with more salt and pepper as needed.
